Activity Ideas
Discover and plan meaningful youth activities.
Personal Finance
Invite someone with a strong financial and/or investing background to teach the basics of budgeting, saving, and investing. Give each young man a hypothetical income and list of expenses (tuition, rent, tithing, utilities, food) and have them create a realistic monthly budget.
Missionary Prep
This can include role-playing door approaches, introducing Preach My Gospel, teaching discussions, practicing bearing testimony, answering common questions, and using the Book of Mormon in teaching. As a bonus, you may consider inviting returned missionaries to come share about their recent experience.
Service Project: Yard Work/Cleanup
Identify a widow, elderly person, or single parent in the ward who needs help with yard work, raking leaves, or general cleanup.
Family History Night
Visit the temple for a sealing session (if eligible) or focus on finding names for the temple and doing family history work. Invite a ward family history specialist for help with research.
Iron Chef Cooking Competition
Divide into small teams to plan and prepare a meal or dessert with a limited budget and set time. Focus on basic cooking skills and safety. Invite a ward member to judge.
Priesthood Duties Training
Review and practice fulfilling priesthood duties, such as blessing and passing the sacrament and ministering.
Basketball/Sports Tournament
Organize a simple tournament (basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, etc.). Emphasize sportsmanship and teamwork over winning. Consider inviting a neighboring ward to join.
Emergency Preparedness: 72-Hour Kit
Discuss the importance of self-reliance and go through the steps of assembling or improving a 72-hour emergency kit.
Ask Me Anything with the Bishopric
A casual Q&A session where the young men can submit questions anonymously beforehand about gospel topics, life advice, or church policies.
